BBL Annual Lab Outing

With a September date set for the BBL annual lab outing this year, we were able to combine both a classic summer and a classic fall past time: BBQ and apple picking! The outing included current lab members, our visiting scholar Andrew Chen, and three exchange students from Beihang University.

Congratulations to BBL graduates!

Congrats to Bin and Prajesh! Bin walked the stage for his Ph.D. and Prajesh received his M.S. in the 2015 Commencement Activities. We're very proud of you both and wish you best of luck!

Congratulations, Bin!

Bin gave his thesis defense on April 29th, entitled "Bone Quality Assessment Using High Resolution Peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (HR-pQCT)". He gave a wonderful presentation and we all celebrated as a lab along with friends, family, and colleagues. Best wishes on your future endeavors, Dr. Zhou!

NSF GRFP - Congratulations, Rachel!

Rachel was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2015 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship competition. NSF received over 16,000 applications for the 2015 competition, and made 2,000 fellowship award offers. Congratulations from BBL!

Columbia University NSF MechanoMedicine Symposium

Columbia's first NSF MechanoMedicine Symposium was held on Friday, May 1st, 2015 in Davis Auditorium (Morningside Campus). Many Columbia students, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty were in attendance to hear presenters from all over the world to discuss innovative translations of multiscale mechanobiology principles to clinical applications.

BBL attends ORS 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada

Members of BBL attended the 2015 ORS Annual Meeting at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 28-31, 2015. We enjoyed a lab dinner together with Ed, current members, and alumni. It's always great to catch up at such an exciting meeting!

Visit to Beihang University, Beijing, China

In January, Andrea and two other graduate students from Biomedical Engineering had the opportunity to travel to Beijing, China. Graduate students from Beihang University gave them a tour of their school and the city, including the 2008 Olympic Park, the Great Wall, and the Forbidden City. Students from both universities gave presentations of their research at a day-long symposium. Andrea, Maggie, and Milos also had the opportunity to talk with undergraduate students from Beihang University about graduate student life in the United States and New York City. It was a memorable trip for all!

Visit to Museum and Holiday Dinner

In December, our collaborators at the American Museum of Natural History gave BBL members a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum, where we saw fossils from dinosaurs and primitive mammals. Afterwards, we all went out to dinner to celebrate the holiday season. Thanks for a great year, everyone!
